A body found under the Stone Arch Bridge Sunday morning has been identified as that of freshman Jacob Anderson, 19. The cause of death hasn’t been released, but police said in a release Sunday they don’t suspect foul play.
“On behalf of the University of Minnesota, I extend my deepest sympathies to the family of Jacob W. Anderson,” Vice Provost for Student Affairs and Dean of Students Danita Brown Young said in a statement Sunday night.
Minneapolis police found the body on the bank of the Mississippi River after responding to a 911 call around 8:45 a.m. Sunday, according to a police press release. Brown Young later identifed the body as Anderson’s in her statement, saying the University is reaching out to Anderson’s family and offering counseling services to students and friends.
The Beta Chi chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha released a statement Monday afternoon expressing sympathy to Anderson’s family and requesting privacy for those close to him.
“Jake was an outstanding new member of our fraternity that provided life to our membership through a constant smile and passion for life,” the fraternity said in the release. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends, and our brothers and sisters here at the University of Minnesota.”
The cause of death has yet to be determined, according to a Monday press release from the Hennepin County Medical Examiner. Minneapolis Police are investigating the incident.
