The Big Ten will issue a release today concerning Minnesota
football’s possible scheduling conflicts with a Minnesota Twins postseason baseball run.
The dates, times and locations of the Oct. 11 game versus Michigan and the Oct. 18 game versus Michigan State at the Metrodome are all subject to change if the Twins advance far enough in the playoffs.
Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany held a teleconference with all 11 athletics directors Tuesday to discuss the issue.
“We did meet, and we did vote,” Gophers Athletics Director Joel Maturi said. “There will be a release by the Big Ten (on Wednesday). There are final things that have to be worked out, and they wanted to make sure that all sides were agreeable before any of us spoke individually.”
Spartans coach John L. Smith speculated what would come of the teleconference.
“I’m thinking that it’s going to be a Friday-night deal,” Smith said. “I don’t know any other way they can do it. So that’s my guess.”
