University of Minnesota graduate assistants are taking another step towards unionization.
Graduate Student Workers United, UAW, a union for University of Minnesota graduate student assistants, is hosting a “town hall meeting” Thursday.
Unionization has been a hot topic since April, when graduate students walked out on University of Minnesota administration at a public forum.
Rep. Mike Nelson, DFL, University horticulture professor Jerry Cohen and Richard McGehee, director of graduate studies in the math department will join three GSWU representatives in a panel to talk about graduate assistant unionization.
“The union is the only way,” said Scott Thaller, a spokesman for GSWU and a physics graduate assistant at the University.
The discussion will be open to the public. It will be from 10:30 a.m. to noon in Rapson Hall, Room 100.
