The search for Chris Jenkins, the missing Carlson School of Management senior, will continue but without the same intense police investigation.

Jenkins’ mother, Jan Jenkins, said that she is displeased with the Minneapolis police’s effort to find her son in a press conference Wednesday. When she spoke with police eight days earlier, she said they told her the case would be placed on “wait-and-see mode.”

Jan Jenkins said police told her Chris Jenkins probably jumped into the Mississippi River because of battles with depression.

“This leaves me feeling deeply frustrated, anxious and saddened,” Jan Jenkins said.

In an open letter, the Jenkins family thanked the campus community for its help but asked for more assistance.

“This search demands an aggressive, coordinated investigation by local, state and federal agencies combining manpower, brainpower and equipment. Our son is missing and so are three other college-age students. There is something seriously wrong here,” the letter stated.

Jan Jenkins said with less than 24 college students disappearing annually, the three college men missing in Minnesota and Wisconsin during the last month need a special task force’s attention.

“We have special task forces for drugs – we need one for these cases,” Jan Jenkins said. “My husband and I paid taxes for 30 years in the state of Minnesota. This is a serious slap in the face.”

Jan Jenkins also said she would like to receive cooperation from the Lone Tree Bar & Grill where Chris Jenkins was last seen and where his girlfriend, Ashley Rice, works.

“We believe with all the collective manpower we can get, we can solve this mystery,” said Chuck Loesch, the Jenkins family’s private investigator.

Loesch said because of the possibility that the students were kidnapped, he would urge other college students to “stay on their game” and never leave a bar alone at night.

Jan Jenkins said her son had been interviewing for jobs with different companies before he disappeared.

“It’s not just a family member,” Jan Jenkins said. “It’s a future leader of a community.”
