Freshman Lexy Ramler was the only Minnesota gymnast in action at the NCAA championships.

Fans and family in attendance witnessed Ramler earn a second team All-American honor on beam. Ramler earned a score of 9.8875 and finished sixth in that event on Friday.  

She earned a score of 39.3500 on all-around and marks of 9.8750 on bars, 9.7375 on floor and 9.8500 on vault, all on Friday, with the event ending Saturday. 

“It was different to compete without a team,” Ramler said. “I am thankful for the opportunity to represent the University of Minnesota. It was such a cool experience to compete at this level.”

Ramler is the eighth different gymnast in Gophers history to receive an All-American honor and the first since 2016. Ramler said she enjoyed competing in front of teammates and family.

“It was awesome to look up and see some familiar faces,” Ramler said. “Having them there meant a lot to me for sure.”

UCLA won the 2018 NCAA championships. The Bruins claimed their first NCAA title since 2010 and the seventh in team history, beating out Oklahoma. The Sooners had won the national championship the last two seasons. 

Ramler earned Big Ten Freshman of the Year earlier in the year. She finished first in all-around eight times.

Hansen said Ramler’s performances at this year’s NCAA championships will help her moving forward.

“It’s an invaluable experience,” Hansen said. “Not only was she able to enjoy it, but we had several of her teammates here rooting her on. [It’s] something you can’t replicate unless you’re here.”

Ramler’s offseason begins as she completes her freshman year of college. She said she will focus on small details heading into next season as she reflects on her first NCAA championships.

“It was a blast to compete, especially in the podium experience at nationals,” Ramler said. “To make second team All-American … that’s a huge thing for me. I’m pretty happy about it.”
