University of Minnesota Police are no longer investigating a reported sexual assault in Sanford Hall as a stranger sexual assault according to a public safety update from the police department.
According to the Star Tribune, University officials said the previously reported sexual assault case is now being considered a "student crisis intervention case".
Vice President for University Services Pamela Wheelock told the Star Tribune that University police no longer believe the student was a victim of an armed sexual assault. Wheelock declined to tell the Star Tribune whether police believe any crime occurred or whether they believe the student changed her story.
"It became clear that the important imperative was to help attend to a student who needed additional support," Wheelock told the Star Tribune.
Wheelock told students, faculty and staff in an email Wednesday evening that the case posed no threat to public safety.
