Stabresa McDaniel and Tory Jacobs have requested to transfer, an athletics department spokesperson confirmed Tuesday.
McDaniel and Jacobs are the fourth and fifth players to leave first-year head coach Marlene Stollings’ team this year. Earlier in the season, junior forward Jackie Johnson, freshman forward Rangie Bessard and freshman guard Grace Coughlin all transferred.
Bessard is now at Wichita State, and Coughlin will join North Dakota.
Those departures, coupled with Rachel Banham’s season-ending knee injury, left the Gophers with a thin bench for their recent NCAA tournament appearance.
McDaniel and Jacobs’ transfers open up a sizeable void for Minnesota’s backcourt. The tandem combined to play 358 minutes this season.
