University Police officers ticketed 21 individuals on campus for underage drinking in the past week — a significant spike in the number of tickets normally issued.
Ralph Rickgarn, coordinator of student behavior for Housing and Residential Life, said housing officials do not track the number of citations on a weekly basis, but did acknowledge an increase.
Of the individuals issued citations, 11 are students. Rickgarn noted that some of the students have probably received behavior warnings earlier in the school year.
Consequences for receiving the citations vary from one residence hall to another, he said.
Police also ticketed one student, a Carlson School of Management freshman, for obstructing the legal process while officers issued underage drinking citations to students in Middlebrook Hall.
It is not uncommon for housing officials to issue several behavior warnings to students at this point in the school year, Rickgarn said.
“Spring normally brings out this kind of behavior,” he added.

ù Burglars stole a 200-pound safe from a travel office near campus Thursday evening, Minneapolis police say.
An employee of Travel Associates, located at 2701 University Ave. S.E., reported the burglary to Minneapolis police on Friday morning.
Minneapolis Police Sgt. Bill Chaplin said investigators have no suspects or leads in the burglary.
Pam Huber, owner of the travel agency, said the suspect did not leave the office with any cash.
According to Minneapolis police reports, the contents of the safe include several airline tickets, travel vouchers and other tour orders. An office chair was also stolen from the agency.
Another tenant in the office building reportedly found pry marks on a front entrance door Friday morning.
ù Minneapolis police arrested two teenagers Saturday night after they attempted to steal a bicycle from a 12-year-old boy on campus.
The robbery occurred on Oak Street Southeast and University Avenue Southeast at 9:40 p.m.
The two suspects, ages 13 and 15, were arrested and booked at the Hennepin County Juvenile Detention Center later that night.
The incident was reported to police one hour after the robbery occurred.
ù Unidentified vandals threw three baseball-sized rocks through two windows at The Minnesota Daily early Friday morning.
News Editor Julia Grant said the incident occurred sometime around 3 a.m. Two large double-paned windows were destroyed on the west side of the building, she said.
Grant said the rocks just missed computers in the two office spaces belonging to the news editor, managing editor and editor-in-chief.
“Everything was covered in glass,” Grant said.
University Police were alerted to the vandalism at 5 a.m. that morning.
A resident at Territorial Hall reported a similar incident to police early Friday morning.
According to police reports, someone threw a garbage can lid at a first floor window at the residence hall at 3:50 a.m. The lid shattered the window pane.
Paul Timmerman, a College of Liberal Arts junior, reported the vandalism to police 20 minutes later.
No arrests have been made in either incident.
