Minneapolis Police Department have arrested a man believed to be connected to multiple sexual assaults and attempted sexual assaults in Marcy-Holmes and Dinkytown dating back several years.
At a Sunday press conference, MPD announced they arrested the Anoka County man Friday. MPD has not yet released the man’s name, though he is expected to be charged Monday. He was booked in Hennepin County Jail on probable cause for burglary and criminal sexual conduct.
Police declined to say how many cases he was linked to except there were “multiple,” not all rape. MPD expects more criminal complaints to be filed against the man in coming weeks.
The police department released sketches in March and requested tips from the public. At the press conference, police thanked the public for the many tips they received.
“To survivors, we hope that this brings some form of closure to everything you’ve been through,” Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey said at the press conference. “Please know that it was your courage that will now make it so that so many more don’t need to go through what you did.”
The man is also suspected of rapes that occurred outside of Minneapolis dating back to 2013.
