Three people were killed and three were injured when a gunman opened fire at a pool party Saturday night, near Auburn, Alabama, according to the Associated Press.
Desmonte Leonard, 22, is suspected of opening fire at a pool party at the University Heights apartment complex near Auburn University, Auburn Police Chief Tommy Dawson said.
Of the three that were fatally shot, two were football players at the University. Edward Christian, had not played for the team because of a back injury. Ladarious Phillips had quit playing for the team.
Police say there seems to be no connection between the shooting and the victims connection to the University’s football team.
Demario Pitts, 20, later died at a nearby hospital from his injuries, according to CNN.
Eric Mack, 20, was injured in the shooting and remains hospitalized. John Robertson, who was shot in the head, remains in critical condition, according to Dawson.
Xavier Moss, 19, was also injured in the shooting, but was treated and released from the East Alabama Medical Center, according to authorities.
Leonard faces three counts of capital murder.
