Minnesotaís womenís basketball team slipped Monday to 22nd in the Associate Press top-25 poll, the Gophers were ranked 17th in last weekís poll.

This week is Minnesotaís lowest ranking of the season. The Gophers were ranked 17th in three previous polls ó the week of Dec. 20, the week of Jan. 10 and last week ó representing their previous lowest ranking.

Minnesota lost twice in the past week, at home to Big Ten front-runner Ohio State on Thursday and at Wisconsin ó eighth in the Big Ten ó on Sunday.

Grier named All-District

Senior Minnesota menís basketball guard Vincent Grier was named to the All-District 11 second team Monday by the National Association of Basketball Coaches.

It is Grierís second-straight selection to an All-District 11 team, and the fifth year in a row a Gophers player has been on the team.

Rick Rickert was named second team in 2002 and 2003, and Kris Humphries and Grier were named first team in 2004 and 2005, respectively.

Nine Big Ten players filled out the 10 spots on the first two teams. The first team consisted of Michigan Stateís Shannon Brown and Maurice Ager, James Augustine and Dee Brown of Illinois and Alando Tucker of Wisconsin.

District 11 comprises all the Division I schools in Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Illinois.

Former Gophers win bronze

Former Minnesota womenís hockey players Krissy Wendell, Lyndsay Wall, Courtney Kennedy, Kelly Stephens and Natalie Darwitz all won bronze medals as members of the U.S. Olympic womenís hockey team.

Stephens scored a goal and Darwitz notched an assist in the United Statesí 4-0 win over Finland in the bronze medal game.
