Across the globe, when local time reaches 8:30 p.m., lights will be turned off in honor of Earth Hour, a World Wildlife Federation initiative.
The one hour event will likely darken the Eiffel Tower, Golden Gate Bridge and even an airstrip at a Hungarian Airport. Officals at the airport say that those affected will be notified.
The event began in 2007 in Sydney Australia. Since then 127 countries and territories joined in the effort.
This year, WWF is encouraging people to go beyond the hour and think about ways they can continue to save and reduce their energy usage.
