JBLOOMINGTON, Ind. – erry Holman gave it everything he could. After taking Sunday’s loss to Wisconsin on Minnesota’s senior night personally, Holman hoped to rain on Indiana’s senior day parade.

Holman led the Gophers with 17 points, collected four rebounds and blocked three shots, but it wasn’t enough to put a tally in Minnesota’s win column.

“Sunday, I felt I personally let my team down on some things,” Holman said. “(Today) I came ready and I played my heart out.”

Holman was the Gophers’ offensive spark early. He hit three shots in the first three minutes, but Minnesota failed to find him the next five minutes. Instead, the Gophers heaved 20 three-pointers in the first half, the most they have shot in a half in conference play. They only managed to hit six.

“We shot a lot of threes, but that’s beside the point,” Holman said. “We still stayed in the game; we just couldn’t get over the hump and get the win.”

Holman found his way back into the offense in the second half, and finished 8-of-11 from the floor. With Rick Rickert sitting much of the second stanza with four fouls, Holman was forced to pick up the slack offensively.

“I think he did a tremendous job,” Rickert said. “For him to be able to step up and lead us in scoring shows something huge about his character.”

While his 17 points were the most Holman has scored in Big Ten play this season, his defensive efforts kept the Hoosiers out of the paint for most of the second half.

Indiana only hit two shots from inside the three-point line in the final 20 minutes.

“Defensively he had to really play hard on the top of that 3-2 zone in the second half and expended a lot of energy,” coach Dan Monson said.

Robinson injured

Aaron Robinson, who played 12 minutes in the first half, came out of the locker room at halftime with ice on his right knee and didn’t play the rest of the game.

“He felt a pop in his knee and they have to examine it,” Monson said. “They are hoping it was the knee cap sliding. But he definitely has some knee thing. We’ll take tomorrow off and then he’ll get evaluated.”

Hot Hoosiers

Indiana’s 13 three-pointers on Tuesday gave the Hoosiers their fourth straight game with at least 10 threes – a program first. Tuesday’s 13 three-pointers tied Indiana’s season high.

No charity

Minnesota made fewer than five free throws for the second straight game – both losses.

The Gophers went a combined 5-for-12 from the line against Wisconsin on Sunday and Indiana on Tuesday.

That 70s score

Tuesday’s 74-70 loss marked the fourth time this season Minnesota scored at least 70 points in a loss. The Gophers are 15-4 in games where they posted at least 70 on the scoreboard.
