Gophers point guard Andre Hollins was named Big Ten Player of the Week on Monday after scoring 61 points in three games at the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament.
Hollins scored 41 points Friday against his hometown Memphis — the most scored by a Gophers player since 1971.
Minnesota upset the No. 19 Tigers 84-75, which helped it earn first national ranking in nearly two years Monday.
Hollins shot 7-for-14 from three-point range in the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament in the Bahamas. He also shot 20-for-22 from the free throw line.
Three of his free throws came with 0.4 seconds left against Stanford on Saturday with the game tied at 63-63. The Gophers beat the Cardinal 66-63 to finish fifth at the tournament.
Hollins said the Bahamas trip was the first time he’d ever left the United States.
