There will be no St. Cloud State University Homecoming next fall, school officials said this week.
Citing a lack of school spirit and involvement from the universityâÄôs alumni base, the school will look to instead have a series of smaller activities throughout the year.
A tradition since 1925, the news has made some students angry.
âÄúItâÄôs stupid,âÄù Kaila Truesdell, a second-year student at St. Cloud State, said. âÄúEvery high school has a Homecoming, why canâÄôt we?âÄù
The main event during the Homecoming week is the football game, which Truesdell attended this past fall. Besides the game, other Homecoming activities fall under the radar with the student population of more than 16,000 undergraduates.
Truesdell said students do not forget about the event, but rather choose not to attend the school sponsored events in order to attend other social activities on campus âÄî whether it is at the bars downtown or just among friends.
âÄúIt adds a spark to the weekend that makes people want to go out more,âÄù she said.
