Wheeler signed a six-year, $33 million contract extension July 26. It was the first big payout of his career.
Wheeler led the Jets last season with 19 goals and ranked second with 41 total points.
A Plymouth, Minn., native, Wheeler, entered the NHL in 2008 after a three-year career with the Gophers. He started his career with the Boston Bruins before he found his niche with the Winnipeg organization.
