The Minnesota football team will attempt to maintain perfection this weekend as it hosts North Dakota State.
The Gophers are 6-0 all-time against the Bison dating back to 1903 and the last five matchups have been played at home for Minnesota, including last year’s dramatic 10-9 win.
The first meeting between the two teams in 69 years came down to the final seconds when the Gophers blocked a North Dakota State field goal that would have won the game.
With an 11:00 a.m. kickoff at the Metrodome, recent history will again be in Minnesota’s favor.
The Gophers have won three straight home games that began before noon dating back to last season.

Brewster not alone
A sour 1-6 record for first-year head coach Tim Brewster might not be what the team had in mind at the beginning of the season, but a slow start under a new coach is not a new trend at Minnesota.
In fact, Brewster’s current five-game skid pales in comparison to Minnesota’s last two head coaches.
Glen Mason lost seven straight in 1997, his first season leading the Gophers.
The next year, however, Minnesota fought to a 5-6 record before Mason’s streak of seven bowl games in eight years began.
Mason’s predecessor, Jim Wacker, took over the program in 1992 and at one point in that first year lost six in a row.
The 1992 campaign drew only two wins for the team, but the Gophers doubled their win totals the following year.

Men at The Prestige
The Minnesota men’s golf team is in the middle of competition at The Prestige in La Quinta, Calif.
The two-day tournament began yesterday and concludes this event.
Competing for the men are senior Clayton Rask, junior Victor Almstrom, sophomore Ben Pisani, senior Patrick Datz and senior Andy Paulson.
The Gophers are competing against a deep field that is made up of many of the nation’s top men’s golf programs.
Scores from day one were not available by the time the Daily went to print Monday evening, but a full story will be in Wednesday’s paper.
The other 15 teams competing with Minnesota are California, Kansas, Pepperdine, University of California-Davis, Charlotte, Michigan, San Diego, University of Central Florida, Colorado, Stanford, University of California-Irvine, Denver, Pacific, Texas Christian University and Wisconsin.
This is the Gophers first time competing in The Prestige.

Wernet beats teammate to win Flight A final
The Minnesota men’s tennis team entered the Northwestern Invitational in Evanston, Ill., in order to finally play new competition. After weeks of playing one another in challenge matches, the Gophers hoped to test their skills against Big Ten foes Wisconsin and Northwestern as well as DePaul and Western Michigan.
Turns out Minnesota could have won the Flight A singles draw by staying in the Twin Cities. Gophers’ freshman Tobias Wernet beat freshman teammate Sebastian Gallego in straight sets Sunday, 7-5,6-4, to win the Flight A final.
Wernet went a perfect 4-0 on the weekend and is now 6-1 on the young season.
