A suspect wielding a screwdriver threatened and nearly robbed a University of Minnesota student Thursday afternoon in the Southeast Como neighborhood, according to a crime alert released Friday.
The victim, who was waiting at a bus stop near the intersection of Como and 27th avenues southeast, resisted the suspect’s attempt to take her valuables and cellphone.
The suspect pulled the victim’s backpack away and fled the scene, but a bystander grabbed both the backpack and screwdriver. The victim was not injured during the assault.
This is the first crime alert of the fall semester. University officials sent 16 alerts last fall semester, more than any other recent semester.
