Sophomore Thomas Longbella and the Gophers men’s golf team saved their best event for the last in the fall season.
The Gophers had their best finish of the fall as a team coming in third out of 13 teams with a score of four under, as they competed in the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate at the Royal Oaks Country Club in Dallas, Texas on Monday and Tuesday. They played three rounds and in a different format, the golfers from each team played with each other.
“We played a really complete game this week,” said assistant coach Justin Smith. “They battled as hard as they could and had great performances by everyone at all different times.”
Longbella had his best tournament of the fall season, shooting a total score of three under to secure a tie for ninth and lead the all Gophers golfers. Longbella had to qualify to play in the tournament. His previous best finish this fall was a tie for 51st at the Gopher invite. Senior Riley Johnson also had his best finish of the fall with a tie for 12th after shooting two under on the tournament.
“I knew I had played well here at Royal Oaks before,” Longbella said. “My short game is what really made the difference, they were the best they were this fall.”
