A man died after being stabbed in the Cedar-Riverside neighborhood Monday night.
Minneapolis police responded to a call about a person with a weapon at 10:15 p.m. Officers arrived at the 500 block of South Cedar Avenue and found a wounded man.
Police and paramedics tried to save the victim, but he died at the scene. The victim was 27 years old, according to the police report.
Minneapolis police arrested one suspect at the scene and booked him at the Hennepin County Jail under probable cause of murder.
The case has been assigned to the Minneapolis Police Homicide Unit for further investigation. The Hennepin County medical examiner will release the victim’s identity and cause of death once an examination is complete.
Ahmed Ali, who witnessed the incident, said the victim was in an argument with the suspect and told the suspect “hit me.” The suspect responded by punching the victim three times and stabbing him once.
Ali, who said he knows both the victim and the suspect personally, said neither was a University of Minnesota student.
This was the first homicide in Cedar-Riverside this year, according to Minneapolis police Sgt. Steve McCarty.
