The last time Mary Lou Lord was in the spotlight was when Courtney Love publicly insulted her due to her past relationship with Kurt Cobain. Since then it’s been pretty quiet for Lord, but that’s just the way she likes it. Lord has never been used to fame, and she has often said she prefers performing in the subway to any stage. Lord recently gained notoriety through her cover of Daniel Johnston’s “Speedy Motorcycle,” which received heavy college radio airplay and was featured in a Target ad. Last year’s “City Sounds” album showcased her quiet and intensely intimate acoustic style. While Lord may never be on “TRL” or the cover of Rolling Stone, she is an artist bound to keep playing regardless of who’s listening. (Adrienne Urbanski)
