An anonymous fan behavior tip line specifically introduced by the University of Minnesota for Gopher football games went live Friday. Spectators for the Homecoming game and future Gopher football games this season can text information to 612-875-4877 to report any issues or unruly behavior on game day. Text messages go to a University-owned cell phone that stadium staff will have access to during game days, said Megan Appell, athletics department event management intern. With the number, fans at TCF Bank Stadium can send a text with a complaint and a section number and stadium security will respond to the issue. The athletics department had tested a similar system for the first three home games where text messages received were logged into a computer program, said Scott Ellison associate athletics director. Issues of the program not responding correctly quickly arose with the software and University officials decided to implement a stand-alone text messaging service instead, Ellison said. The number can also be used for reporting any malfunctions inside the stadium. The tip line is only open to text messages. The phone number will only be live during Gopher football games, but the University plans to look into moving the hotline for use in other sporting events on campus. For any other issues before or after a game, fans can send an email to [email protected].
