The Metropolitan Council is now using a smartphone app to track cyclists' behavior to aid in bike-friendly planning, according to a release by the Metropolitan Council.
The council will be using CycleTracks, a free app that allows users to track their rides using a GPS. It then sends the information to a centralized database the council can use to view routes and habits of bicyclists.
The San Francisco County Transportation Authority developed the application and has given the Met Council permission to participate.
