The body of an unidentified female was recovered from the Mississippi River near the University of MinnesotaâÄôs West Bank late Thursday morning. According to Minneapolis Police Sgt. Jesse Garcia, officers responded to reports of a woman attempting to jump from the Hennepin Avenue Bridge at approximately 10 a.m. The Minneapolis Fire Department as well as the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources helped in the recovery on West River Parkway. The victim passed through the riverâÄôs spillways and falls before being recovered by DNR officer Thor Nelson. Upon spotting the victim, Nelson abandoned his boat and assisted in the immediate retrieval of the body, Garcia said. A fire ladder was brought in allowing a basket to be lowered over the cliffs of the shore aiding officers in recovery of the body. Police are classifying the death as a suicide.
