Incumbent Alice Hausman, DFL wiped the floor with Republican challenger Mark Roosevelt , winning the race for state representative for District 66B, which includes Falcon Heights and St. Paul. As of press time, Hausman led with 79 percent, to RooseveltâĂ„Ă´s 21. Hausman, who was first elected in 1989 and has served 10 terms in the House, said there was a lot more excitement brought to this election by the public. âĂ„ĂşPeople were engaged in this election as never before,âĂ„Ăą she said. âĂ„ĂşI think that gives energy all the way down the ticket.âĂ„Ăą Hausman said she plans to continue pushing bills for an improved mass transit system that includes both trains and buses. The other main issue the House must tackle is health care, Hausman said. âĂ„ĂşWe simply cannot continue the way we are doing it,âĂ„Ăą Hausman said. âĂ„ĂşWe have increasingly become a country that has turned our health care over to private companies.âĂ„Ăą Roosevelt has lived in the Twin Cities all his life and joined the Marines in 1982. He is currently an assistant account manager for Securitas Security Services. He won the primary election by snagging almost 70 percent of Republican votes , but Hausman said he was nonexistent in the general election race. Roosevelt did not participate in a debate hosted by the League of Women Voters, a local cable forum or a Pioneer Press interview with Hausman. âĂ„ĂşIn this case, the opponent was there but seemed to not be an entity,âĂ„Ăą Hausman said.
