Minnesota’s baseball team didn’t waste any time getting a jump on St. Thomas on Tuesday night at Midway Stadium in St. Paul.
The Gophers (18-14, 6-6 Big Ten) scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning to get off to a lightning quick start against the Tommies.
But with two outs in the top of the second inning, the game was suspended because of lightning.
The lights were turned off, players from both teams were removed from the field and the fans were moved from the bleachers to the corridor for 45 minutes before the game was suspended at 8:21 p.m.
The game will resume at a date and location yet to be determined, said team spokesman Steve Geller.
After Minnesota’s Matt Nohelty grounded out to lead off the first, the Gophers came up with five straight hits and a walk, including an RBI double by Sean Kommerstad.
The Gophers play host to Northern Iowa at 3 p.m. today in their only game this season at Siebert Field.
