Contact information for the Aurora Center has been added to all University of Minnesota Police Department timely warnings.
After the Minnesota Student Association pushed for the change, University Services added the information to the alerts, which UMPD emails to students, faculty members and staff following crimes on or near campus.
“There have been many survivors that have been asking for this,” said Abeer Syedah, MSA president.
MSA has received numerous requests to add the information over the past few years, she said. “This is their victory too,” Syedah said.
Initially, MSA reached out to University Services requesting that the information be included in crime alerts involving sexual assault. However, University Services decided the information was important for all cases, said University Services communications director Tim Busse.
Syedah said she hopes the feature will have limited use but is glad that the information is now more available and accessible.
