Minnesota honored the 10-year anniversary of the 2001-02 national championship team Saturday.
The Gophers finished that year with an overall record of 32-8-4 and defeated Maine 4-3 in an unforgettable overtime thriller to win the championship.
Nick Anthony, Adam Hauser, Justin Johnson, Matt Koalska, Pat O’Leary, John Pohl, Grant Potulny, Jerrid Reinholz, Chad Roberg, Judd Stevens, Jon Waibel, Erik Wendell and Dan Welch were recognized during the first intermission in front of an announced crowd of 10,202.
Eight members from the championship team were unable to make it to the celebration.
“We wanted to play hard for them tonight but in the end, our goal from when the week started was getting four points,” Jake Hansen said. “We couldn’t have responded any better after the series against Denver.”
