Certified results have surfaced from the Iowa caucus showing that Rick Santorum leads Mitt Romney by 34 votes, in contrast to an eight vote lead Romney held on caucus night, reports The New York Times.
According to a statement made Thursday morning by Matt Strawn, chairman of Iowa Republican Party, voting results from eight of the 1,774 precincts were unavailable for certification but Santorum emerged as the leader after reviewing those which were available.
Romney called Santorum earlier today to end his campaign the Iowa caucuses, giving the official victory to Santorum.
The men now battle in South Carolina where The New York Times reports a tight race between Newt Gingrich and Romney. The official primary begins on Saturday.
