Incoming University of Minnesota President Joan Gabel announced members of a search committee for the school’s next executive vice president and provost in a campus-wide email Friday.
The committee is made up of 16 members, including University deans and directors, a vice president, professional and undergraduate students, professors, regents professors, a graduate program coordinator and advisers.
An executive vice president and provost is responsible for “issues concerning academic affairs, faculty development, student affairs, academic policies, institutional accountability, and undergraduate, graduate and professional education across the University of Minnesota system,” and serves as the “Chief Academic Officer of the University of Minnesota multi-campus system and Provost for the Twin Cities campus,” according to the job description.
In August, current Provost Karen Hanson announced her plans to resign from the position. She will stay in the role next year to provide stability as Gabel settles into the presidency.
Recruitment efforts for the position will begin immediately and continue throughout summer. The search committee will hold its first meeting mid-May before public interviews with finalists, which are expected in the fall. Priority deadline for the position is July 12.
