A district court judge has ruled in favor of Rep. Ilhan Omar, DFL – Minneapolis on charges stemming from a December taxi incident in Washington D.C.
The driver, Uka O. Onuma, was charged with discrimination and offensive language towards Omar and her sister last year.
The encounter happened when Omar and her sister used Onuma’s taxi. Onuma called the pair “filthy” and “ISIS,” threatening to remove Omar’s headscarf.
“When something like this happens, it can be difficult to come forward. I hope by sharing my experience and the judge’s ruling, it can prevent this from happening to someone else,” Omar said in a press release.
Onuma was fined $1,000, had his taxi license suspended for 45 days and was ordered to attend anger management and cultural sensitivity courses.
