There were three attempts to steal University of Minnesota bait bikes — bikes equipped with campus police GPS tracking —three house burglaries and an attempted robbery at the Royal Cigar and Tobacco shop in Dinkytown over the weekend.
Three suspects attempted to steal the University’s bait bikes, one at the University Recreation and Wellness Center at about 3:00 a.m. on Sunday, and two others near the Carlson School of Management and Weaver-Densford Hall on Friday and Saturday after 6:00 p.m.
Police caught two suspects, but one escaped near Weaver-Densford Hall, according to a police report.
Three burglaries also occurred throughout the weekend in Southeast Como and Marcy-Holmes — all before 5:00 a.m. In each instance, electronics were taken.
Authorities arrested four men at Royal Cigar and Tobacco early Thursday at about 1:00 a.m. for an attempted robbery and possession of weapons without a permit.
