Head coach Tracy Claeys has named an offensive and defensive coordinator for the Quick Lane Bowl against Central Michigan on Dec. 28.
Tight ends coach Rob Reeves will serve as the Gophers offensive coordinator for the game, while defensive backs coach Jay Sawvel will serve as the defensive coordinator, Claeys announced Monday.
Minnesota has been without an official defensive coordinator since former head coach Jerry Kill retired on Oct. 28 and Claeys, the team’s former defensive coordinator, left the position to serve as the head coach.
The Quick Lane Bowl will be the Gophers’ first game without former offensive coordinator and offensive line coach Matt Limegrover and former passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach Jim Zebrowski, as their contracts were not renewed on Nov. 29.
Offensive graduate assistant Trevor Olson and special teams quality control assistant Jay Nunez will coach the offensive line, while offensive graduate assistant Adam Weber will coach the quarterbacks in the bowl game.
Offensive quality control assistant Nate Griffin will coach the tight ends with Reeves serving temporarily as the offensive coordinator.
The game will mark the Minnesota coaching debut of Dan O’Brien, who named co-special teams coordinator, assistant defensive backs coach and assistant to the head coach on Nov. 30. Running backs coach Pat Poore will also serve as a co-special teams coordinator for the bowl game.
