Redshirt freshman quarterback Adam Weber earned

his first collegiate honor this week after being named co-offensive Big Ten Player of the Week.

Weber put up 368 yards of total offense and five touchdown passes, four passing and one rushing, in Minnesota’s triple-overtime win against Miami (Ohio).

“Adam is playing extremely well, his numbers in the game were outstanding. His leadership and his decision-making are way beyond schedule as far as I’m concerned,” Minnesota coach Tim Brewster said. “I couldn’t be more excited about the way Adam Weber is playing.”

Kickers competing for big-time job

Brewster also announced yesterday that several members of the Gophers will begin competing for the place-kicking duties after last week’s poor special teams performance.

Brewster said the race has essentially come down to redshirt freshman Eric Ellestad and junior Joel Monroe.

After missing three field goals last week against the RedHawks, junior Jason Giannini’s role in the competition was unclear, although Brewster confirmed Giannini is still on the roster.
