A man charged with second degree murder in a botched July robbery is the same who committed two robberies on the University of Minnesota campus, according to charges.
Benjamin Love’s charges cover six counts of aggravated robbery over a two week period, in addition to a prior robbery offense and domestic assault misdemeanor in 2016. The 44-year-old was charged Monday in Hennepin County District Court. Love allegedly killed one victim of the robberies off campus at a parking ramp.
According to court documents and police reports, Love’s robbery spree began with a night robbery on July 3 at 4:30 a.m. when he robbed two people in front of the University’s Blegen Hall. Neither victim required medical attention.
Love’s second robbery on July 15 resulted in the death of one of his three victims. The final robbery occurred July 19 at 4 a.m. near Eddy Hall.
Love remains in jail with bail set at $1 million.
