Citing an "informed source," Minnpost.com columnist David Brauer says President Barack Obama will be in town on Saturday to give a speech on health care.
The speech, according to Bauer, is set for 1 p.m., just five hours before the Gophers kick off their season at TCF Bank Stadium. Any potential speech would be a health care-related message on the heels of a speech to Congress Obama will deliver on Wednesday.
Bauer had reported the speech was to be held at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, where Obama declared victory in his primary battle with Hillary Clinton last June. However, an arena official said the Minnesota Wild will be using the facility that day.
Brauer does say, however, " I now have two knowledgeable sources who confirm the visit."
Via startribune.com, Sen. Amy Klobuchar said she is unaware of any Obama visit.
Stay tuned; should the reports be true, the Daily will be there.
