The Hmong Minnesota Student Association will host its fifth annual Heritage Day celebration Saturday on the St. Paul campus.
“It’s a way for us to show the (University) what our heritage is about and lets us show our cultural spirit,” said sophomore Eddie Lee, a member of the association.
The celebration will be at the St. Paul Student Center’s North Star Ballroom. Activities, which begin at 10 a.m., include a play about a girl who does not understand her Hmong culture, a fashion show featuring Hmong dresses and a musical performance with various Hmong singers and dancers. There will also be two motivational speakers, one who is a local author. There will be a dance at the ballroom from 7 to 11 p.m.
Lee said he expects about 500 people to attend, which is usual for this event.
“It’s our biggest event this semester,” Lee said. “It takes a long time to prepare, and we’re all excited.”
