Behind senior Aaron Barber’s tie for fifth place, the Minnesota men’s golf team placed fourth at this weekend’s Big Ten championships at the Penn State Blue Course in University Park, Pa.
Barber led all Gophers with a four-round score of 293 and was selected to the All-Big Ten team along with freshman teammate Matt Doyle.
Ohio State, with a tally of 1,173, won its second straight conference title as two Buckeyes finished in the top five. Wisconsin was second (1,187) and Indiana placed third (1,194). Minnesota tied Michigan for fourth place with a score of 1,195.
Individually, Barber was the only Gopher to finish in the top 20. Sophomore Rob Kerr and junior Mark Halverson tied for 21st with a score of 303. Doyle placed 28th with 305 and Dan Arroyo was 41st with 309.
The conference’s individual title went to Northwestern’s Jon Loosemoore, who shot a 5-under-par 67 on Friday for the lowest round of the tournament.
The Gophers will play at the NCAA Central Regionals this Thursday through Saturday in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Women’s golf
Minnesota sophomore Amy Dahle shot a final round 8-over-par 80 to finish in 26th place during this weekend’s NCAA East Regional tournament at the Grand National Lake Course in Auburn, Ala.
Dahle shot a personal best par-72 on Friday but had an 80 on Thursday and Saturday to finish with a three-round score of 232.
Dahle struggled with her driving on Saturday, but her 26th-place finish was a marked improvement from last year when she finished 83rd.
