Gophers junior guard Rachel Banham is one of 20 women's basketball players still in contention for the Wooden Award. The honor is annually given to the nation's best player.
Banham leads the Big Ten with 22.5 points per game while hitting 47-percent of three-point attempts. Those are numbers that have earned her the nickname "Maroon Mamba."
Other Big Ten players on the Wooden Award Top 20 list are Nebraska's Jordan Hooper and Penn State's Maggie Lucas. Hooper, a senior, is averaging 20.2 points and 10.4 rebounds per game. Lucas, also a senior, is tallying 21.2 points per game and leads the nation in free throw percentage at 97-percent.
The Gophers lost at Nebraska in overtime earlier this week and play at Penn State Jan. 26.
