Three University of Minnesota female students were victims of criminal sexual contact Thursday morning, according to a public safety alert sent out Friday afternoon by University Police. A man on his bike came up from behind the first victim and âÄúgrabbed her genital area,âÄù as she walked on the West Bank Plaza near Anderson Hall at approximately 8:30 a.m. Thursday. After the first assault, the suspect rode toward Wilson Library and assaulted a second victim near the Humphrey Institute in a similar manner just minutes later. A third victim was assaulted as the suspect fled from the scene, the second victim told police. University police have already gotten some calls on the incidents, including one that might be from the third victim and some that might be from additional victims, University Police Chief Greg Hestness said. While police hope to apprehend the suspect, students can expect to see increased police visibility on the West Bank in the meantime, he said. The suspect is described as black with a dark complexion, 29 to 39 years old, with a tall and thin build, according to the alert. The man was riding a red bike and wearing a green hat, brown coat, white tennis shoes and sunglasses. Anyone with information on these incidents is asked to contact the University of Minnesota Police Department at 612-624-COPS (2677).
