Gophers gymnast Lindsay Mable was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Monday. The Aurora, Colo., native won the all-around title Saturday night at Penn State with a score of 39.325. She scored a 9.800 or better in each of her four events en route to a Gophers victory.
Last week, junior Kayla Slechta was named Event Specialist of the Week after her near-perfect vault in a Gophers win over Washington at the Sports Pavilion.
Mable's teammate Jenny Covers was a nominee for Gymnast of the Week. Covers finished second in the all-around competition at Penn State with a score of 29.250. Covers recorded career-high totals on all four events – 9.875 on vault, 9.850 on floor, 9.775 on bars and 9.750 on beam.
Kylie Schermann was a nominee for Event Specialist of the Week. Schermann had a career-best score of 9.875 on the floor exercise to tie with Mable, and she tied for eighth on beam with a score of 9.825 at Penn State.
Minnesota is ranked 12th in this week's GymInfo Top 25 Rankings as it prepares to host No. 1 Michigan, No. 20 Central Michigan and Iowa State on Saturday at the Sports Pavilion.
