Around 9 a.m. on Sunday, the sun shone and a cool breeze drifted through the stands at the Lyndale Farmers Market, crafting the ideal weather for a late summer outdoor market — and more importantly — outfit.
To accommodate the weather, many patrons stuck with easy layers and transitional pieces — think breezy tees, blue jeans and light jackets.
Here’s how a few wore the end of the season best.
Hannah Paavola, 18
Spanish and biology major at the University of Minnesota
What she wore: Bullhead ripped jeans, KOKOON pink tee, gold family jewelry and a University of Minnesota Welcome Week backpack.
Paavola mixed basic pieces, most of which were thrifted, to craft an outfit suitable for biking to the farmers market from the U. Her soft pink, long-sleeved tee and simple gold necklace complemented the grunginess of her jeans.
When planning her look, Paavola certainly didn’t forget practicality. Not wanting to risk any more blisters after the laborious Welcome Week festivities, Paavola opted for a pair of Teva sandals.
Her backpack, of course, allowed her to haul her farm-fresh selections back to campus.
McKenna Carter, 17
Student
What she wore: Wet Seal jacket, Target tee, Target denim shorts, Adidas Superstar sneakers and Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Lolita II.
Carter’s mixing of black, white and denim builds a combo that’s both versatile and chic, while the jacket and Adidas sneakers add an urban vibe to her basic white tee and denim shorts.
The touch of terra cotta lipstick adds a hint of color to Carter’s otherwise neutral ensemble, and is reminiscent of the warm tones of the tomatoes and carrots sold at the market.

Ryan Riches, 23

What he wore: Walker, Minn. souvenir t-shirt, Levis, gray Quiksilver sneakers, knockoff Ray-Ban sunglasses and a Western Rise baseball hat.
Riches’s neutral-toned getup stood out amongst the aisles of bright, colorful produce.
By mixing grays, browns and blacks, Riches constructed a look that was clean but textured.
The logos on his gray t-shirt and baseball cap added punches of graphic design that prevented monotony.
L A Buckner, 25
Musician and artist
What he wore: Ray-Bans, H&M button-down shirt, light-wash Levi chinos, blue Converse and a silver earring.
At last, Buckner proved that monochrome can be cool — and not just in tone.
Blue button down, blue pants and blue Converse doesn’t sound like it could work, but Buckner’s mix of hues kept the look fresh. The light-washed pants were particularly striking, as they carried a reminder of summer’s fast-fleeting palette.
Buckner’s style was not lost on his accessories, either. The Ray-Ban sunglasses polished the ensemble, while the broken-in Converse gave the ensemble a rugged, utilitarian look — proving that classic pieces can never hurt an outfit.
