Authorities arrested two co-owners, a band member and a club promoter Monday in connection with the weekend blaze that killed 232 in a Brazilian night club, USA Today reported.
The arrests were made for investigative purposes and will initially last five days. All four could face manslaughter charges.
Santa Maria police have questioned 20 other people, according to reports. Authorities are investigating whether or not the property was "fit for operation" and if the owners of the club are "real, formal owners."
Investigators have indicated that the fast-growing fire was caused by a band's faulty pyrotechnics. The fire quickly became out of control as patrons — most of whom were college students — tried frantically to leave the club. Bouncers reportedly prevented club-goers from exiting at first, assuming they were trying to skip out on bar tabs.
Funerals for the victims began Monday morning.
