Sometimes, you can’t help but like cheesy music. Case in point: Huey Lewis & the News. They’re as cheesy as ‘80s rock gets, yet their square anthems possess undeniable feel-good power; there’s a reason four of their songs were in the top 40 at this time 30 years ago. Though their album, “Sports,” was released in September 1983, it hit number one on the Billboard album charts in June 1984, and classics such as “The Heart Of Rock And Roll,” “Heart And Soul,” “I Want A New Drug” and “If This Is It” were definitely the soundtrack of that summer. Basking in the sonic rays of glorious populism ain’t so bad, after all.
