Sophomore Hassan Mead ran his way into the record books Sunday when he captured the individual title at the Big Ten championship. On Wednesday he was honored for his accomplishment by being named the Big Ten Cross Country Athlete of the Year. One year after being named Big Ten Freshman of the Year, Mead placed first at the Ann Arbor, Mich. event with a time 24:26.4 this season. And he wasnâÄôt the only Minnesota figure honored. WomenâÄôs cross country coach Gary Wilson picked up his second-straight Coach of the Year award after his squad of Gophers captured their second Big Ten championship in a row. No. 7 Minnesota totaled 63 points last weekend, beating out Wisconsin by just four points.
