The University of Minnesota continues its search for the next senior vice president for academic affairs with a second name in the running: Gary Wihl.
He will take part in a public forum Wednesday as the second of five candidates to be announced in the next two weeks. The forum is scheduled for 3:30-5 p.m. in Keller Hall 3-180.
Wihl, whose previous posts include Acting Dean of Emory UniversityâÄôs Laney Graduate School, is the Dean of faculty of Arts &Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis.
Wihl graduated from McGill University, receiving his undergraduate and masterâÄôs degrees in English in 1976 and 1978, respectively. He went on to receive his Ph.D. in English from Yale University in 1983.
While at Washington University, Wihl oversaw roughly 400 faculty and 375 administrative staff, 20 departments, 15 interdepartmental programs and 13 centers, with a budget of approximately $240 million.
The on-campus presentations, which include question-and-answer periods, will end Tuesday. The provost search committee expects to name one of the five candidates to the position by October.
