No. 12 Minnesota opened up the USD/San Diego State Tournament yesterday with a 3-0 sweep of UC-Santa Barbara. Sophomore Tabitha Love and freshman Ashley Wittman combined for 17 kills, 13 digs, and six blocks, while junior Ariana Filho tied a career-high seven blocks for the Gophers.
The Gophers continued their sweep today by taking down San Diego State in three matches, improving their record to 11-1. Wittman had a match-high 10 kills with six digs, while Love had nine kills, five digs, and three blocks. Junior Jessica Granquist had a team-high nine digs. They finish up the tournament tonight with No. 23 San Diego.
This is the Gophers’ second weekend without senior Lauren Gibbemeyer. Gibbemeyer is considered week-to-week with a wrist injury. She also missed Minnesota’s first place finish in last week’s Duke Invitational.
Minnesota is 5-0 on the road so far this season, losing just one set in all five matches. Their one loss on the season came Sept. 4 against No. 17 Northern Iowa.
