The University of Minnesota Delta Upsilon chapter is back from a four-month long suspension due to sexual assault allegations. The fraternity resumed activities this semester, including fall formal recruitment.

The chapter is still on probation, meaning they are unable to “self-govern,” and must have all decisions approved by the organization’s headquarters, according to past Minnesota Daily coverage. 

Despite talk of restrictions on their recruitment process, Delta Upsilon participated in Interfraternity Council recruitment like any chapter would, said James Ehrmann, IFC program director at the University.

“Neither IFC nor [the Office for Fraternity and Sorority Life] placed any restrictions on Delta Upsilon’s recruitment efforts,” Ehrmann said.

Since OFSL does not have final membership numbers reported for the fall yet, it is unknown whether the chapter’s suspension affected their recruitment success this year.

Members of the University’s chapter of Delta Upsilon declined repeated attempts for comment.

“I can’t speak to how their suspension has impacted their membership,” Ehrmann said. 

Ashley Martin, director of communications for Delta Upsilon International Fraternity, confirmed restrictions were not placed on the chapter’s recruitment process and new membership numbers are unable to be updated at this time.

A redevelopment plan is being solidified and will outline the restrictions that DU does have concerning their participation in other IFC events, Ehrmann said. 

Until all the terms of the plan have been satisfied, Delta Upsilon will be on probation.
