Minnesota men’s swimmer Justin Mortimer garnered two silver medals at the World University Games in Daegu, South Korea. Mortimer captured a silver medal in the 400-meter freestyle with a time of three minutes, 52.73 seconds. He followed his 400 freestyle performance with a silver medal as a member of the 200-meter free relay.
Mortimer earned two of USA swimming’s 21 medals. The Americans scored three gold, 10 silver and eight bronze medals, the most of any country.
In his three years with the Gophers, Mortimer earned nine All-America honors. In the 2003 NCAA championships, Mortimer finished seventh in the 500 freestyle, 14th in the 1,650 freestyle and was a member of the seventh-place 800-yard freestyle relay. His seventh-place finishes earned two first-team All-America accolades, while his 14th-place finish gained honorable mention acclaim.
Mortimer took home his first career Big Ten title in the 1,650 freestyle last season, earning him first-team All-Big Ten honors.
