The Minnesota Rowing Classic held at Lake Phalen over the weekend provided a fitting showcase for the women’s crew team.
Minnesota competed against the club team from St. Cloud State and more experienced rowing clubs from the Minneapolis Rowing Club, St. Paul Boat Club, Mendota Rowing Club and Palmer Crew.
“It was a perfect wrap-up for our spring season and good timing for the five members of the novice four, who are off to the nationals in Cincinnati,” said women’s club crew coach, Jill Cooper.
Minnesota had two boats in the novice/freshmen four, which finished first and fifth respectively. The team also placed second in the varsity open four and novice/freshmen eight, as well as third in the varsity open eight races.
“We had good results for the last regatta of the season,” said club president Amy Pudwell. “These races will help us look forward to next season.”
Both the men’s and women’s crew clubs have boats competing at the IRA Regatta starting today and running through June 1 in Camden, NJ. The National Collegiate Rowing Championships will be held the following weekend in Cincinnati.
